Bonjo-an


Bonjo-an is a thatched-roofed old folk house where you can fully experience original Japanese scenery. It is a self-catering accommodation built by renovating an old folk house and serves as a perfect place to spend slow-paced time. Kita-no-mata Village where Bonjo-an is located is also very attractive place, where terraced rice paddies are stretched between mountains and the landscape harmonizing with rich nature surrounding presents the atmosphere of good old time in Japan. Nearby places of interests are “Seiryu-no-mori,” the farmers’ restaurant, Sanpei-no-ie (Sanpei’s House) and Nekobari Rock known as locations used for a film “Tsurikichi Sanpei.”

Hot springs


Did you know that there are hot springs in Gojome-machi. There are three nice hot-spring inns in the town including Yu-no-ko-no Inn and Akakura lodge and each place features a different kind of hot springs. Yu-no-ko-no Inn offers authentic sulfur hot springs which is rarely seen in the central Akita. The hot spring in Akakura lodge is said to generate Akita beauty and there is a folk tale that they first discovered the hot spring as a crane was curing her wounds with the water.
